Dr. Matthew Kundler is a performer and educator based in Central Texas, serving as the Adjunct Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and the President of the Austin Brass Collective. As a soloist and chamber musician, Matthew has been awarded prizes and recognition in numerous national and international competitions. As a member of the International Tuba and Euphonium Association, Matthew has performed recitals, given presentations, and judged competitions at the Midwest, Southeast, and South-Central Regional Tuba and Euphonium Conferences, as well as the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference.

鈥婱atthew has performed with a variety of ensembles, such as the International Contemporary Ensemble, the BackBurner! Tuba Ensemble (the only professional tuba ensemble in the U.S.), the Austin Brass Collective, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and the Air Force Band of the West. As the President of the Austin Brass Collective, a non-profit organization comprised of professional brass players in the Austin area, Matthew organizes a main series of six concerts, outreach events, competitions, and the ABC-Youth Program that brings young musicians from the Austin area together to perform multiple concerts throughout the year. Matthew was also a cofounder of the Diversity Initiative Call for Scores, an organization that promotes the works of composers of underrepresented communities. The organization's first call for scores received over 85 new works of brass chamber music from 27 countries. Alongside this organization, Matthew also founded the Illinois Low Brass Institute and the Tuba and Euphonium Charity Series, two education-focused entities that provide the highest quality of music education to all.

An advocate for new music, Matthew has performed the premieres of solo and chamber works for tuba and euphonium by Quinn Mason, Steve Snowden, Samantha Owens, Florence Maunders, Bracha Bdil, Ben Justis, Jose Flores, Dan Kramer, Ian McCollum, Doug Bristol, Matthew Jackfert, and Paul McGhee. As an arranger, Matthew has written numerous scores from movies, video games, and the classical repertoire for brass choir, tuba and euphonium ensemble, brass quintet, and mixed chamber ensembles.

Matthew received his Bachelor鈥檚 degree from the University of Alabama, his Master鈥檚 degree from Northwestern University, and his Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Texas at Austin. His primary teachers include Rex Martin, Jeremy Crawford, Martin Cochran, and Charles Villarrubia.
