Dr. Sunkyung Chung is a National Certified Counselor, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, licensed professional counselor, and board-approved supervisor in the state of Texas. She was born and grew up in South Korea. She came to the United States to further her education.
Dr. Chung received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from West Texas A&M in Texas. She worked at an accounting company after she earned her degree. However, her calling led her into the counseling field, where she obtained her masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at St. Mary’s University. Dr Chung's dream since she was in the 7th grade was to become a counselor and educator. So, she decided to pursue her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision in 2018, with concentrations in Play Therapy and Group Counseling from St. Mary’s University in Texas.
Dr. Chung worked at one of the migrant workers’ centers in South Korea to assist and counsel foreign laborers who experienced legal, human rights, and well-being issues. She also worked with sexual trauma survivors for eight years, providing a wide range of services as a child counselor and group therapy facilitator at the Rape Crisis Center in San Antonio, Texas. In addition, Dr. Sunkyung Chung has worked with community leaders to provide psychoeducation and counseling for Korean immigrants and refugees in various settings, including community counseling centers and private practice since 2012. She has additional training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).

Her research and publications focus on studying various culturally sensitive counseling approaches for diverse populations, including minorities, immigrants, and refugees, as well as bilingual counselor training and supervision, promoting well-being among diverse populations, and the creative and expressive modality for complex trauma.
