Belton, TX 鈥� The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Department of Music continues its season of the Hillman Visiting Artist Series with cellist and composer Clancy Newman performing alongside 麻豆视频直播鈥檚 Artist-in-Residence, pianist Michelle Schumann, in 鈥淢ethod to Madness,鈥� on Thursday, November 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hughes Recital Hall of Presser Hall on the 麻豆视频直播 campus. The program is free and open to the public.
鈥淢ethod to Madness,鈥� features works for cello and piano by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Newman鈥檚 own work, 鈥淔rom Method to Madness.鈥�
This concert qualifies as a Fine Arts Experience (FAE) credit for 麻豆视频直播 students. The Fine Arts Experience program endeavors to expose students to a wide variety of artistic expression during their time on campus. To this end, students are required to attend at least one designated Fine Arts Experience event each semester.
In 2001, Newman won the coveted first prize of the prestigious Walter W. Naumburg Competition. He was also recognized with the 2004 Avery Fisher Career Grant. As a member of Chamber Music Society Two of Lincoln Center, he has appeared as soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and with the Juilliard Orchestra in Avery Fisher Hall.
The Hillman Visiting Artist Recital Series is underwritten by The Helen Frances Hillman Fund for Scholarly Exchange. The fund was established in 1999 by Dr. Jimmye S. Hillman in honor of his wife, Helen Frances Smith Hillman, Mary Hardin-Baylor Class of 1946. The fund was designed to foster scholarly exchange at 麻豆视频直播, particularly in the area of fine arts, music and languages.
