This week, 麻豆视频直播鈥檚 student organizations and clubs started to meet, drawing interested students from across campus. With over 70 groups catering to athletics, academics, special interests, and student leadership, there鈥檚 an organization for everyone, whether you want a place to study or you鈥檙e just looking for a fun time.
Cru Outdoors kicked off their interest meeting under the shady trees by Burt Pond with a game of Biggest Fan. Students sat on picnic blankets while officers discussed this low-cost, low-commitment club, self-described as 鈥渁 community of people who like being outside.鈥� Upcoming events include a morning hike at Miller Springs and an event with the Healthy Minds club about how nature can help support mental health.
Before Cru Color Guard鈥檚 interest meeting on Thursday, Club President Emily Titherage was excited for their second year as a club sport, saying last year鈥檚 more experienced members will be able to help new members learn quickly. Members perform routines with flags, sabers, rifles, and dance. In the fall they work with the marching band, and this winter they plan to compete against color guard clubs from other universities.
The Spanish Club welcomed interested students Friday afternoon with coffee and cookies. 鈥淭his is a place for anybody, regardless of whether they are Hispanic or not, to have a safe space to practice speaking Spanish,鈥� says President Danica Komlofske. The club invites students who may not remember high school Spanish to join. Though it鈥檚 not a class, they do lessons on different concepts and phrases. They also partner with the Hispanic Student Association for events. 鈥淐ome as you are,鈥� Komlofske says.
President Emma Smith opened the English Club interest meeting with pizza, popsicles, and prayer before describing 鈥淪tudiscivity.鈥� Short for 鈥渟tudy-discuss-activity,鈥� this is a Tuesday night event where any student, regardless of membership with the club, is invited to do homework and destress. Next Tuesday鈥檚 theme is Percy Jackson. This semester, they are also holding a book club, where they will be reading The Picture of Dorian Gray, a classic by Oscar Wilde.
As clubs and organizations all over campus open their doors for new members, we hope every student will find a place to plug in and make new friends.
