Academic Programs

The Scott & White School of Nursing offers a four-year BSN degree, for those seeking initial licensure as a Registered Nurse, as well as an online degree program for the associate degree-prepared nurse who wishes to obtain the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Approximately 25% of the nursing classes are composed of adult learners who have degrees in other fields who are making a career change. Thus, classes are diverse in terms of age, background, and life experiences, which makes for a wonderful opportunity for shared learning.

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing, and master鈥檚 degree program in nursing education at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (). Graduates of the program are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN licensing examination. Graduates are also eligible to pursue a graduate degree if they decide to pursue an advanced practice role.

Nursing Career Opportunities

The BSN degree is designed to prepare graduates for the NCLEX-RN licensure exam preparing them as entry-level professionals in a generalist role. Following graduation, nurses may determine they are primarily interested in a certain area of nursing and want to focus their efforts to that area. The nurse may then 鈥渃ertify鈥� in a specialty area, obtain an MSN degree and become a Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist---or continue to practice as a generalist with the BSN degree. The BSN degree prepares graduates to work both in acute care agencies, such as hospitals, or in community settings such as clinics, schools, and industrial sites.
